On a per capita basis, this corresponds to an average of 530 kg per person.<br \/>\n<strong>Globally<\/strong>, over 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste were generated in 2023, equivalent to around 3,800 tonnes per minute.<\/p>\n<p>These figures highlight the urgent need to implement effective strategies for sustainable waste management, promoting waste reduction, increased recycling, and the adoption of circular economy models at both national and global levels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>International Zero Waste Day<\/strong>, proclaimed by the United Nations, is an opportunity for reflection celebrated on <strong>March 30<\/strong> to raise awareness among governments, businesses, and citizens about the importance of reducing waste production and promoting sustainable production and consumption models.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Only thro<span style=\"color: #000000;\">ugh the commitment of all can we turn the waste crisis into an opportunity for a more sustainable future.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To learn more:<strong> <a class=\"\" style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/zero-waste-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zero Waste Day<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2023, the production of municipal waste in Italy increased compared to the previous year, reaching nearly 29.3 million tonnes.
