How long can a company phone last?

Sartori Ambiente has chosen to provide its employees with a company phone. A decision that is common in many organisations, but made distinctive by the device selected: Fairphone, a smartphone designed to last over time, be repaired and help reduce the environmental impact associated with consumer electronics.

The idea behind it is simple: a phone should not be replaced at the first sign of a problem, but should support the person using it for as long as possible. For this reason, Fairphone is designed with a modular structure that makes it possible to replace individual components — such as the battery, screen or other parts — without having to replace the entire smartphone.

Each employee can therefore keep track of how long they have been using their phone, monitor its condition, assess software updates and understand whether replacing a single component may be enough to extend its useful life.

Two and a half years after introducing Fairphone company phones, Sartori Ambiente’s goal is to reach at least five years of use for each device. This is a significant target, especially when compared with the European average, according to which a phone is typically replaced after around two and a half years.

Over this period, no maintenance work has been required on the devices so far. This is a positive sign of the value of a choice focused on quality, durability and the possibility of replacing individual components only when necessary.

This is not simply about extending the life of a work tool. It is about adopting a more conscious approach to the resources required to produce it: prioritising maintenance and repair, reducing premature replacements and making better use of what already exists.

This choice is naturally aligned with Sartori Ambiente’s values and with the company’s commitment to promoting more circular models, in which resources are valued, waste is reduced and products are designed to remain in use for longer.

Even a company phone can become part of a broader journey based on environmental responsibility, conscious use of resources and consistency between what is communicated and what is put into practice every day.

The headphones used for online meetings are also Fairphone products: a small detail, but one that represents how sustainability can become part of everyday choices, even in the simplest work tools.
