Until then, containers had been designed mainly with the usage phase in mind: in citizens’ homes, across the local area, and during waste disposal and emptying operations. Above all, they were tools designed to support collection services.
But every product has a life that begins long before its everyday use. Before reaching homes or collection points, a container must be manufactured, handled, stored, transported and distributed. Focusing only on the moment of use therefore meant looking at just one part of the process rather than at the system as a whole.

It is a clear example of how innovation does not always stem from complex technology, but can arise from an intelligent design choice. A carefully considered detail can improve the entire process, reducing organisational inefficiencies and making operations run more smoothly.
