On the occasion of the 33rd edition of Comuni Ricicloni, the Italian Composting Consortium awarded Sartori Ambiente the 2026 CIC Special Award. This important recognition highlights the company’s contribution to the development of solutions designed to improve the quality of separate organic waste collection, reduce the presence of non-compostable materials and protect the work of operators involved every day in urban sanitation services.
At the heart of the award is UrbaE, the ergonomic container designed by Sartori Ambiente to make organic waste collection more effective, safer and more conscious. But behind this product lies more than just a result: there is a journey.
The range of ergonomic containers was developed through a process of listening, observation and human-centred design. Different people, with different needs: citizens disposing of their waste, operators who collect and handle containers every day, and service providers required to ensure efficient, traceable and sustainable services.
Every detail was developed based on real-life user experience. The way the container is gripped, lifted, emptied and put back in place. The position of the hands. Its stability during waste disposal. How easily users can understand how to use it. The reduction of repetitive strain for operators. These are simple, everyday actions, but precisely for this reason they are essential: when repeated thousands of times, they can make a real difference in terms of service quality and workplace safety.
UrbaE is the result of this approach. A container designed to encourage more accurate and conscious waste disposal by citizens, also through reward-based mechanisms and positive reinforcement principles, while at the same time reducing biomechanical strain during collection activities.
Throughout this journey, ergonomics was not considered an additional feature, but an integral part of the design process. It means making the product easier to use, more intuitive, safer and better suited to the people who use it. It also means helping to improve the quality of the organic waste collected, because a well-designed container can make the act of waste disposal simpler and more accurate.
Cleaner organic waste means less residue at treatment facilities, greater efficiency in the production of compost and biomethane, and a more effective recycling chain. Product innovation therefore does not stop at the container itself, but generates benefits throughout the entire collection and treatment process.
The 2026 CIC Special Award confirms the value of a clear design choice: starting with people in order to improve the system. For Sartori Ambiente, innovation means creating tools capable of combining service quality, environmental sustainability and worker protection.
