Back in 2003—exactly 22 years ago—the first aerated system for the collection of organic waste in households was introduced.
This system, then as now, is composed of the Stelo aerated bin and a certified biodegradable and compostable bioplastic bag.
From the beginning, the system demonstrated clear advantages in reducing both weight and odors. To support these findings with objective data, we conducted tests to verify the aerated system’s effectiveness in:
- Weight reduction
- Minimizing odors, leachate, and mold
- Bag durability
The results were significant:
- Weight reduction between 12% and 22%
- Minimal odor and mold presence after 7 days
- Bag remained completely intact
These results are also thanks to the tools we designed and developed.
The Stelo container is made from certified recycled polypropylene (“Second Life Plastic”). Its perforated structure allows for full aeration, promoting the evaporation of moisture and preventing unpleasant odors and mold formation.
This breathability significantly reduces the weight of waste compared to closed containers, resulting in lower collection and disposal costs.
The container’s design features lowered hinges to make inserting bags easier.
The bioplastic bag that accompanies the Stelo container complies with UNI EN 13432:2002 standards, which specify the requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation. The material ensures at least 90% degradation within six months under industrial composting conditions, contributing to a lower environmental impact.
These bags are tailored to fit Stelo bins perfectly, simplifying daily use while maintaining hygiene.
