Ergonomics: the “E” that makes the difference

Ergonomics is the heart of the UrbaE project, a container born from two years of applied research and developed according to the principles of human-centred design. This approach guided every design choice: from the shape of the container to weight distribution, all the way to the gestures required in daily operations.

As Michele Sartori, CEO of Sartori Ambiente, highlights: “We set out to create a container that fully respects ergonomics and the work of operators. We design tools for work — we don’t simply make containers.”
A vision that guided the entire team toward creating a product capable of concretely improving the working conditions of waste collection operators.

This commitment has led to a unique result in the sector: UrbaE is the first and only waste collection container to obtain the Ergocert 4-star ergonomic certification, an acknowledgment that confirms the reduction of biomechanical overload and the protection of operators’ health during lifting and handling phases.

Alongside the product certification comes another important achievement: UrbaE has obtained the HCD Process certification, which recognizes the adoption of design processes compliant with ISO 9241-220. This certification does not only evaluate the final product but also the quality of the entire design process — a process built on field observations, tests with real operators, and biomechanical analyses conducted together with research partners.

UrbaE is not simply an improved container: it is the expression of a new way of designing tools for waste collection, placing people, safety, and operational efficiency at the center.
