DETAILS THAT MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

The operator at the centre

UrbaE was conceived with a primary focus on the health and well-being of operators. Its design aims to reduce the biomechanical overload of the musculoskeletal system, a common risk associated with the use of non-ergonomic tools in the workplace.

Injuries and efficiency

Prolonged strain causes injuries and a drop in performance, with consequent impacts on collection efficiency.

Turnover

Neglecting staff well-being leads to high turnover, which affects both costs and efficiency.

REAL NEEDS, CONCRETE SOLUTIONS

Designed, tested, certified

The product stems from extensive research carried out directly in the field. The studies thoroughly analysed the daily needs and real challenges faced by operators, turning them into practical solutions applied to UrbaE.

Urbae Ricerca Sul Campo

Field research

The shapes of the container are the result of in-depth biomechanical studies conducted in laboratories, as well as on-site analysis of the movements performed by waste collection operators. The symmetrical structure is designed to ensure optimal ergonomics and easy use for both right- and left-handed operators.

Movimenti e sforzi muscolari analizzati e studiati in laboratorio

Movements and muscular efforts analysed and studied in the laboratory

The ergonomic components of UrbaE are the result of an in-depth analysis of operator movements and muscular efforts, conducted in collaboration with a specialized research centre.
This study guided the creation of a handle that represents not only the first and last point of contact during emptying operations but is also optimized to support ergonomic posture, ensure functionality, and provide a feeling of safety and solidity.

Certified product and design process

UrbaE successfully passed tests conducted by independent certification bodies, proving compliant with international standards on ergonomics and human-centred design.
It has achieved the prestigious 4-star Ergocert ergonomic product certification, as well as HCD (Human-Centred Design) process certification. The latter confirms that the design process implemented by Sartori Ambiente fully complies with the requirements of the harmonized ISO 9241 standard.

Innovative and ergonomic

UrbaE is an ergonomic container — meaning safety, health, and ease of use for all those who use it every day. From the first ideas to the finished product, every detail of UrbaE was designed by listening to real users, through practical testing, field observation, and continuous improvement.
A container designed with attention to real people’s needs is also more inclusive, safer, and easier to use day after day.

REDUCES injuries, INCREASES efficiency

Designed for ergonomics

Waste collection operators face intense physical strain daily, leading to fatigue and risk of work-related injuries — often accompanied by a sense of dehumanization that makes their work even harder.
UrbaE helps reduce biomechanical overload on the operator’s musculoskeletal system, eliminating the need to bend or twist the wrist unnaturally to grip the handle. The result is a significant improvement in ergonomics and comfort during use.

Angled handle grips for smoother emptying.

Soft shapes that allow the container to be brought closer to the body, reducing leverage and minimizing effort during handling operations.

Verticality and visibility

The varied ways in which citizens place containers can make emptying operations difficult for operators. The goal is to create a positioning standard that allows smoother work and reduced physical strain.
The reflectors on the handle help establish a positioning standard that encourages the raised-handle position. The handle reflector also increases visibility from a distance.
